    💙 Why you'll love them

    • They're really very, very simple to make: just cut the apples into strips, place them in the puff pastry strips, roll up and bake.
    • They require just 4 ingredients, which are easy to find and use.
    • They're vegetarian and dairy-free (check that the puff pastry you buy doesn't contain dairy), and you can easily make them vegan and gluten-free.
    • Perfect for Valentine's Day or Mother's Day !

    🍎 Ingredients

These are the main ingredients, and the quantities can be found in the recipe card below.

    • Apples: I recommend Red Delicious, Pink Lady/Cripps Pink (my favorites), Gala, Fuji, Jonagold or Braeburn. Use organic ones, as this recipe does not require peeling.
    • Jam: take the jam of your choice (pear, strawberry, apricot, blueberry, peach, etc.). You can also alternate jams.
    • Puff pastry: if you can find a rectangular one, it will be easier to handle. Otherwise, a round will do just fine!
    • Brown sugar: to lightly caramelize the apples.
    • A little butter: soft, for the mussels.
    • Powdered sugar: just a little, for a pretty appearance after baking.

    ✨ Customize your apple roses

Depending on your tastes, feel free to replace the honey with jam (pear, strawberry, blueberry, apricot, etc.), homemade salted caramel or Dulce de Leche, to add spices (vanilla, cinnamon, star anise, etc...).

It can also be replaced by agave or maple syrup.

    ✅ Vegan and gluten-free version

    • To make this recipe vegan, use a vegan honey alternative, of which there are plenty on the internet or in some organic shops/groceries. And make your own puff pastry, using a vegan recipe.
    • To make this recipe gluten-free, buy gluten-free puff pastry.

    🥰 Chef's tips

    1. Use a mandolin if you have one: this will enable you to obtain thin slices of the same thickness. Alternatively, use a knife to make the finest, most even strips possible.
    2. Put your slices in the microwave for a few seconds: this will soften them and allow you to roll them up properly. If they are too hard, they will break.
    3. Leave your apple slices to cool well after microwaving, before placing them on the dough, to avoid soaking it.

    ❄️ Conservation

You can store them for around 3 days, in an airtight container or in the fridge.

To reheat, put them in the oven for a few minutes at 300°F/150°C.

    Baked puff pastry apple roses

These crisp, melt-in-the-mouth apple roses are sure to impress your guests! They're super-simple, requiring just 4 ingredients.
    Servings 6 roses
    Prep Time 10 minutes mins
    Cook Time 20 minutes mins
    Total Time 30 minutes mins

    Ingredients

    • 1 ½ apples organic
    • 1 rectangular puff pastry
    • 6 teaspoons jam strawberry, pear, apricot, etc...
    • 1 teaspoon butter divided
    • 1 teaspoon sugar divided
    • 1 teaspoon powdered sugar divided

    Instructions

    • Remove the core from your apples and cut them into thin strips (no need to peel) using a mandolin. Then cut these strips in half. If you don't have a mandolin, cut the apple into four quarters and then into the thinnest, most even slices possible.
    • Place them on a plate, add water until the strips are covered, then put them in the microwave for 2 to 3 minutes: they should be soft and able to bend without breaking. Drain and leave to cool, so as not to soak your puff pastry.
    • Preheat your oven to 390°F/200°C in natural convection / static heat mode, high and low. Cut your puff pastry into strips, then spread 1 teaspoon of jam per strip.
    • Place apple slices on one half of the strip, fold the pastry half without apples over and roll the strip over itself. Lightly butter your muffin tins and sprinkle with brown sugar. Place the roses in the moulds and repeat until you've used up all the ingredients.
    • Bake for 20-25 minutes (puff pastry must be cooked).
