Where does guacamole come from?
Guacamole, which translates into Castilian as "avocado sauce", originated in the Aztec civilizations of the 1200s. While it's undeniably of Colombian or Mexican origin (it's a bit hazy), it's thanks to the conquistador Hernàn Cortés that we can now enjoy this delicious dish.
Tomato or not tomato?
The traditional recipe includes tomato. It is enjoyed between June and September. If it's in season, you can add more. Personally, I almost always make the recipe without the tomato, but that's a matter of personal taste 🙂
Which avocado to choose?
Did you know that, depending on the country of origin of your avocados, you run the risk of enriching the mafia? Find out more about green gold and alternatives in this Eco Tips.
Which spices to choose?
Alternatively, you can make your own spice mix, which I use when I have an extra five minutes to spare. Simply mix paprika, cumin, nutmeg, cayenne pepper, fine salt, garlic powder, coriander, ginger powder, parsley and black pepper.
