Unclear origins
The story behind the creation of this cocktail is rather uncertain, and many explanations exist. For some, Bloody Mary was created in memory of the bloody reign of Mary Tudor, the bloodthirsty and cruel Queen of England, who was nicknamed Bloody Mary by her opponents. This nickname would explain the opaque red color of the cocktail.
Others credit the writer Hemingway with the cocktail's name. At the bar of the famous Ritz hotel, he wished he'd had a cocktail that didn't smell of alcohol, so that his wife wouldn't be angry with him when he got home. As the latter fondly called her "Bloody Mary", he would have named this cocktail after her.
The ultimate hangover cocktail
Headache? Heartache? Bloody Mary can help relieve your hangover... No, we don't necessarily cure evil with evil, but tomato juice can help your body assimilate alcohol. And if the cocktail is well made, you won't even taste the vodka!
Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health, and should be consumed in moderation.
