🍔For burger lovers
🥐Notes on ingredients
You can find a full list of ingredients and measurements in the recipe card below. Here are a few ingredient notes to make this croissant burger.
- Croissant - use good quality, well-buttered croissants from a bakery near you.
- Mayonnaise - you can use store-bought mayonnaise, but I like to make my own because it's so much better and so quick, you won't regret it! You'll need 1 egg yolk, ½ teaspoon mustard, ½ teaspoon balsamic vinegar, 4-5 tablespoons neutral oil, 1 tablespoon olive oil, salt and black pepper. Mix the egg yolk with the salt, pepper, mustard and balsamic vinegar. Then gradually add the neutral oil and olive oil, beating with an electric mixer until the sauce thickens and takes on the usual mayonnaise texture.
- Sriracha sauce - this is a hot, spicy Japanese sauce. If you can't find it, you can substitute traditional hot sauce.
🍟What to serve it with ?
I suggest several options to accompany these wings:
- Fries - classic fries, Cajun fries, sweet potato fries, carrot fries, zucchini fries, patatas bravas, etc…
- Salad - fresh green salad or crisp coleslaw.
- Grilled vegetables - zucchini, eggplant, carrots, peppers, broccoli, mushrooms or onions can add a touch of freshness.
- Chips - potato or vegetable chips (beet, sweet potato, pumpkin, kale, etc.) can add a little crunch!
- Onion rings - a comforting and decadent accompaniment to burgers.
🍗Variations
Feel free to change this recipe to go with your tastes. I suggest several options:
- Meat - feel free to replace traditional ground meat with grilled chicken, fish, vegetable patties or vegetable proteins, such as grilled portobello mushrooms or chickpea patties.
- Cheeses - replace cheddar with blue cheese, brie, goat cheese, mozzarella, burrata, etc…
- Toppings - add onion confit/replace it with fried onions, grilled vegetables such as peppers or zucchini, or fresh salads such as arugula or spinach shoots.
- Sauces - replace sauce with barbecue sauce, Pesto, Tzatziki or old-fashioned mustard.
- Herbs and spices - use fresh herbs like basil, cilantro or parsley, and spices like Zaatar to enhance the flavor of your burger.
✨How to make croissant burger ?
Recipe details and quantities are in the recipe card below.
- Start by preparing the onion confit - slice your onion, separate each slice with your fingers, then melt them in the butter in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Once translucent, add the brown sugar and vinegar. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
- Lower the heat, add the water and cook, covered, for 15-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Meanwhile, make two balls of minced meat with your hands. Put them in a frying pan over medium heat with butter, cover with baking paper and crush them gently with a glass. Then cook quickly on one side, for about 1 minute.
- Turn them over, add the cheddar slices, cover and turn down the heat.
- Prepare the sauce by combining the mayonnaise, mustard, tomato paste, Sriracha sauce, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika.
- Cut the crescent in half lengthwise and place the sauce, meat with melted cheese and onion confit on top. Repeat for the 2nd croissant and enjoy!
❄️Storage
The croissant burger can't be stored (over time, the croissant will soften), so I recommend you eat it as soon as it's ready!
